Here at South Highland CDC, we create a loving environment in which your child will participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities that foster social, intellectual, and spiritual growth. We will engage your child by encouraging:

  • Creative Exploration

  • Positive Interaction with teachers and other children

  • Learning to respond to, listen to, and sing different types of music

  • Immersion in stories, poetry, dramatizations, puppetry, and books

  • Using play equipment to aid in physical development

  • Engaging in play with manipulative materials such as paints, clay, crayons, scissors, glue, puzzles, and other craft items.

To strengthen your child's self-concept and understanding of his/her surroundings, our daily activities include:

  • Working as an individual

  • Solving problems in everyday life

  • Respecting other's rights and earning respect of others

  • Developing an understanding that each person is special and has worth

Our Curriculum

We recognize that children learn and develop in different ways and at different paces. All of our classes use Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies. The philosophy behind Creative Curriculum is that children learn best by doing. Creative Curriculum emphasizes the process of learning - "Teaching children how to learn is more important than teaching children what to learn."

Our curriculum identifies goals in 8 areas of development and learning:

  • Social-Emotional

  • Physical

  • Language

  • Cognitive

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Social Studies

  • The Arts

We believe in choosing topics that are age-apppropriate, draw upon the interests of our children, and relate to their daily lives. We encourage children to become active thinkers and explorers. These educational experiences give your child the best possible start in elementary school, and help to develop a life-long love of learning.

Enrichment Opportunities
